Have you spent a lot of your life experiencing a low but constant level of negativity; personally and professionally? Even if you are a Christian; can you not understand why it is that there’s always this steady flow of minor irritations that never seems to subside in your life? Or, do you just assume that it’s all part of living and only pay attention to things, asking what you did to deserve what you got, when it all really hits the fan? On Sunday, February 14, 2016, I was slated to be baptized by Pastor Scott Boger. However, my baptism was canceled due to his need to deal with a family situation. This, coupled with Newton First Baptist Church’s conduct about the matter, has left me grateful that I have not been baptized, as originally planned. In fact; I’ve yet to be baptized as an adult to date and, looking back one year later, could clearly see the Lord’s hand at work. You know; it’s hard enough to follow God’s word and will without being led astray by the doctrine of some religious organizations and the sheep of such enterprises. “Yet,” I will admit that for the longest time, when it came to understanding who Jesus really is, “I nearly drank the Cool-Aid to the last drop.” However, having finally woken up and smelled the coffee… Continue reading Who Jesus Is And Is Not: Spirituality: Reflections From God’s Unbroken Creation.
Have you ever had someone come up to you, or had a church leader hand you a questionnaire, asking you to answer, “What is a Christian?” How did you answer this question? When confronted with this very question myself, as part of an email sent by Pastor Scott Boger in mid-December, 2015; I gave the following answer. I had burned through two churches during the year 2016; Sparta Evangelical Free Church and Newton First Baptist. Personally, I left because of a strong persistent feeling in each case that something wasn’t right in the operation of these organizations. Furthermore; to me it seemed that church doctrine wasn’t truly in accordance with the God and His son I read about in The Bible. Finally; feeling strongly that I should do without Sparta Evangelical Free in November of 2016, after already feeling the Lord pulling me away from Newton First Baptist Church in May of that year; I began to question whether “I myself” might be the problem in finding a church to call home. When it comes to prayer; it would seem that everyone and their mother has the best formula for doing it. However, I’ve often found myself wondering just how much of what is out there on the subject isn’t just out and out garbage. Perhaps the formulas offered are nothing short of deception; put out on the web by church leaders just looking for docile sheep to add to their flock? Thankfully though; The Bible tells us a few things that have helped me personally to come up with a format, which might actually help you. In Genesis 11:1-9 we learn that there was only one language spoken in the world. We also discover that the folks who had decided to dwell upon a plain in a place called Shinar had the ability to make brick. They, also, knew how to convert slime into mortar, as well. Later in the very evening this sermon was given, July 13, 2016; I had the very great pleasure of receiving the audio recording of, “God Will Have His Way,” presented by John Wesley Smith at Northwood Baptist Church; 2345 East Northwood Drive, Columbia, MO 65202. This Audio lasts a snick over 28 minutes and, largely centered around Genesis 38, is well worth the time. My new mantra, starting at the end of June, 2016, has become, “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not mentally, emotionally or physically lack.” Even though I am using this affirmation to program my own subconscious mind to work along this line of thinking; I’m fully aware that there might be times when God will have cause for me to experience lack on a mental, emotional and physical level. Around late spring 2015; one day I was meditating and wishing for a simplified way to make an appeal for general guidance to the Lord. The Bible is a lot of text to read. For someone picking it up for the first time; how to begin reading such a book certainly is a reasonable thing to be wondering. At times I’ve really had to wonder if my ability to accurately profile people and read situations isn’t some sort of curse, even though a lot of what I get is largely through intuition alone. But, I’ve finally accepted this thing I do is more of a blessing, especially after a meeting I had with a few folks one afternoon; Sunday, April 10, 2016. While I won’t get into the specifics of this meeting; the true fact of the matter is that it all worked out because I’ve learned to take my cues via this one thing I do. Upon the recommendation of Pastor Scott Boger; I read/listened to, “Pilgrim’s Progress: Updated, Modern English (MP3-CD),” which was apparently released on September 1, 2015 on the Amazon website. Written by John Bunyan and read by Mark Christensen, the book tells of how evil accompanies Christian on his journey to the Celestial City; Often disguised as something that would help him make his journey a successful one.
