Every year I have to recertify with the State Of New Jersey’s Division of Housing so I can continue receiving my Section 8 Rental Subsidy. With my lease being up for renewal on August 1, 2016; things got off to a roaring start at the end of March.
Having received a request for a truck load of information from the Division of Housing that needed to be fulfilled by April 7, 2016; there was a mad scramble on my end to get things done. This scramble was because April 7 was only about ten days away from the time of me receiving their little care package, “Forms and all.” Fortunately for me my reader was very accommodating and we got things done pretty quickly; having everything back to them by March 31, 2016.
Then on April 9, 2016 I got notice of their inspector coming to my apartment on Monday, April 11. This was record timing; never before have I had an inspection so soon after notification of it. However, I’m self-employed so, “No worries.”
After the initial flurry of activity things did slow down considerably; me receiving a request for more information around the beginning of May, which my reader and I promptly responded to. But, there was a bit more paperwork that still needed to be dealt with before my courtship with the Rockaway Office would be complete for the year. So, still not having received the final round of papers needed to complete the process, I went to bed on the night of Wednesday, June, 15, 2016 feeling very concerned about things getting done in time. After all, August 1, 2016 was only around six weeks away.
However, I woke on the morning of the sixteenth with a more positive feeling after the two dreams I had involving my apartment complex manager and a phone call from my caseworker at the Division of housing. In the dream about my complex manager; he had come to my door with some pictures that he wanted to share with me. In the second dream I was on a call with my reader/friend Ellen when my caseworker from the Division of Housing called to speak with me.
In both dreams the mood was light and friendly. Also, in turning the dreams over in my mind during the next few days; I began to suspect that I would get the last of the paperwork from Housing to sign the same day that my rent check was delivered to my door.
Wouldn’t you know it; my rent check was hand delivered to my door on Friday, June 24, 2016; the very same day that the paperwork from the Division of Housing landed in my mailbox. However, “It gets better.”
While on the phone with Ellen (reader/friend) during the afternoon of Tuesday, June 28, 2016, the call waiting indicator went off. I decided to let the second caller go to voicemail, as I was in the middle of a conversation with Ellen. But, “Who do you think was calling?”
If you guessed that it was my caseworker from the Division of Housing you’d be correct. She was calling to let me know that she had mailed me a letter that contained information regarding my estimated portion of the rent; to start on August 1, 2016.
“Now!” I don’t know about you. But I do not believe in coincidences. Clearly the Lord’s hand has been working in this situation; Him making a serious effort to bring down the level of stress I generally experience this time of year and using my dreams as a means to do it.
Why would I feel stressed? Well… If someone screws up between Housing, the United States Post Office and me, “I’m out a subsidy and home.” So, doing the annual recertification for housing is generally not a time period I look forward to dealing with.
However, I must say, since the Division of Housing Office was moved from Newton to Rockaway; things certainly have gone far better than I could have ever expected they would. Governor Chris Christie has done little to inspire confidence in me with regard to the running of New Jersey. However, the consolidation of Housing Offices that has taken place under his watch seems to be functional thus far.
