The Disabled Voter Video Shows How Blind People Do Vote: Objectively: Living Blind At Beta.

In January of 2016 I was asked if my registered Seeing Eye Dog and I would be willing to help create a training video for Poll Workers by Marge McCabe; Administrator of the Sussex County Board of Elections, Newton, NJ. So, figuring that it would be something that just might make life easier for more than a few poll workers and differently abled people alike during the 2016 Election Season; I agreed to do it so long as they kept me well plied with coffee.

I really hadn’t given it much thought since my four legged friend and I participated in the filming session on the Morning of February 1, 2016, which led up to the creation of the final YouTube based video series. Then, during an email exchange about another matter on the morning of April 7, 2016; Marge told me everyone loved the Poll Worker Training Videos, especially the handicapped voter one. She said I was a star.

However, even now, I find that to be a bit questionable in my book, especially when I look in the mirror. I just don’t “see” anything resembling star material there and haven’t for a very long time; if you know what I mean.

Anyhow, I guess Mrs. McCabe and her coworker, Ellen, were at a conference of election officials in March of 2016 and the head of the EAC took a look at the videos they created. He was apparently so impressed that he told them he wanted to share them as he went around the country. Marge told me on the morning of the seventh in one of her emails that the head of The U.S. Election Assistance Commission (EAC) even posted them on their Facebook page.

Now, I don’t know about you. But where I come from, I’d call the above news from Marge a definite win for any blind or disabled voter. Even though I am more than likely a nameless blind guy in the video (I can’t be sure because I never read the credits for some strange reason), I am honored.

The Video is titled, “The Disabled Voter,” and is number eight in the training series that Sussex County New Jersey has put together for its Poll Workers. Hopefully, voting will be a bit easier for disabled voters in general as the video found at the link below makes its rounds.
