Unexpected Christmas Bonus: A day in the life of a Web Developer.

For most of yesterday, I was kind of in a mood. When I left here to head to Dominick’s for dinner, I was still in a mood. When I got down to Dominick’s, my mood lifted somewhat. And when I came home, I was at least emotionally neutral. Then I opened my email inbox and spied a payment from my Missouri client plus twenty percent extra tacked on and a note that said, “Merry Christmas.”

I immediately called the gentleman up to thank him, commenting that I wasn’t aware I was getting a Christmas bonus this year. He laughed and said, “Well, you’ve earned it,” in so many words.

It’s nice to be recognized by at least some people. I often do quite a bit of stuff and don’t ask much for it. A lot of times, I don’t even ask anything at all for what I do.

Most of the time anymore, I’m usually left with the feeling of being kind of worn out after doing a job for someone because most of the stuff I do for people turns out to be such a mess of their own making that it leaves you feeling like it’s all pointless at the end of the day. But my friend in Missouri along with another out in Pennsylvania are some of my few clients who at least appreciate what’s done, and they have no problem letting me know my work is appreciated every chance they get.

In this instance, my Missouri client is also way ahead of schedule with his payment plus for webhosting this year. It isn’t due until November. I can sleep soundly with that though. It certainly isn’t going to screw up my bookkeeping. “It’s all good!”
