I received a call this evening informing me that the investigation into my brother’s fatal car accident on Saturday, February 24, 2024, by the South Dakota Highway Patrol has concluded. What it boils down to is his blood alcohol level was .201, he wasn’t wearing a seatbelt, and he was driving at a high rate of speed as he drove into a ditch, causing the vehicle to flip multiple times.
True. We haven’t exactly been close, our last conversation being well over a decade ago. And… Given the circumstances prior to his death, it’s more than likely our estrangement would have continued for God only knows how many more years.
Even still, it all seems like such a waste. I don’t know how to process any of it other than to label it as, “It is what it is.”
For now, that’s the best I’m going to be able to do with it. “That’s probably all I’ll ever be able to do with it.”
