Blindness perks? More like nightmares: My building’s symphony of slams.

I woke around 3:00 AM and couldn’t get back to sleep. I think I know what’s waking me up and this one’s going to be a mother to override because it involves various outside doors on the building closing at odd hours. It’s a combination of hearing and feeling, “Which is strange!”

Even with a fan going, or my phone running an ocean soundtrack through my smart speaker in the bedroom, I can still hear the sound. Yup! Even if it’s a door on the courtyard side of the building being closed, I can still hear it, “Right through my damn pillow!”

Why I should feel it though? That’s a good question because there’s no structural vibration I can detect. It’s kind of like when you listen to music and can feel it within your body but not through the surrounding surfaces.

And yet? I can sleep during the day when everyone’s making noise! “Why?”

Maybe there’s something to be said for too much stillness. I know I’m looped into things a bit more than your average person. Blame it on the blindness if you must. But despite my best efforts to deaden my connection to this building and everything else when it’s not really necessary to be that tuned in, “Sometimes I swear those efforts are just making it worse!”

Maybe I’m trying too hard and it’s having the reverse effect? “Now there’s a thought!”
