I see that apple’s latest update; iOS 17.5 is now available and am installing it on my iPhone. They say this version brings a mix of security enhancements, quality-of-life improvements, and a dash of innovation. But then again, “Don’t they always say that?”
I know that since version iOS 14.5, they’ve tried to make the iPhone more secure with regard to unknown AirTags or Find My network accessories tracking one’s every move. Apparently now, with iOS 17.5 this feature has been extended to other Bluetooth-based tracking devices. This means that if it’s an AirTag, a Tile, or any other tracker, your iPhone will notify you if it detects one moving with you. And… Given a certain little hacking piece of shit’s tendencies when he’s a guest on this complex, “I’ll take it!”
To Update your iPhone to the latest version manually, simply do the following:
- Go to Settings.
- Select General.
- Tap on Software Update.
- Follow the prompts on screen to download and install the new software.
Note: They say iOS 17.5 is compatible with iPhone models from iPhone XS and newer but if you are following the directions above to install it manually, if your phone isn’t compatible, you won’t see the update there. So, there’s no chance of accidentally updating to an IOS version your phone’s hardware can’t handle.
While I know iOS 17.5 isn’t a major overhaul, if it can do what the advertisement says, it’s going to be a useful update to have, especially with certain little pieces of dirt walking around this planet in close proximity to my personal living space. Of course, when it comes to this latest IOS’s ability to detect some of the toys the little hacking loser guest that comes to this complex brings with them, I might be disappointed. But on the other hand, “Maybe not!”
Any way you cut it though, this latest system enhancement will add at least a little extra awareness as to the digital security of the environment around me. And… even if it’s only a fractional improvement over what I’ve been running on my iPhone thus far, “It’s still worth something!”
