Saturday, July 25, 2026: 10:10 PM: I picked up the revised edition of David Allen’s Getting Things Done on Audible. Funny thing. I knew I’d heard of the book before and felt like I should remember it. It wasn’t until I was checking my Kindle dashboard for a payment that I figured out why: I had written a summary in 2012 based on the 2001 version of Getting Things Done and at one point had published it on Amazon. I’ve been reading at least a chapter a day, sometimes two, and plan to finish the book on Tuesday.
What I’ve gotten out of the book so far is that I need a simple way to get things out of my head and into a place where they can’t keep haunting me. As it is, I’ve been working at a deficit for years. But the tech is finally available, so I can start managing this stuff more easily.
Also, I really do need to get a handle on my calendar. Sometimes it plays nicely with JAWS and sometimes it doesn’t. However, Narrator seems to work better with Office products anyway, and Alexa will let me use it as well, since it interfaces with Outlook. Quick and easy is the name of the game here.
I’ve begun cleaning up the calendar in Outlook and working with the settings a bit. I had a lot of crap about people in there that really needed to go. And now that end of things is taken care of, I’ll be cleaning up my address books next, since there are a lot of dead folks listed in them. Enough is enough!
Also, while I’ve been looking at the way I do things, I’ve reached the conclusion that I really don’t need to be calling people unless prompted to do so. If I do need to call someone, I’m sure I’ll be informed via vision or something. But this habit of calling simply because I can needs to stop. I’ve got this wicked strong intuition working for me. So, I’m just going to let it manage the calling and other communications going forward and simply turn my attention to writing my book.
Also, I’m going to be using my calendar for time specific appointments, day specific appointments and day specific information. So, if I need to be somewhere Tuesday at 1:00 PM, call someone anytime Thursday, or track birthdays and other events, “The calendar is the place for it.”
I’ll also be meeting with a new CPA via Teams on Tuesday, since Mike is finally retiring. Another firm is taking over his business. Change is good. And, if it turns out that the change isn’t good, “I’ve got AI.”
